Drop Off Expired and Unwanted Prescription Drugs on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Police and Human Services hosting drug take back site at Lynnhaven Mall on Oct. 25 for safe, free and discreet disposal.

Prescription Medicine

Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) and Virginia Beach Human Services teams are hosting a table near the food court at Lynnhaven Mall, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, to accept and safely dispose of residents’ unwanted medications as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. While supplies last, VBPD and Human Services staff will also give away free educational materials, medication lock boxes and naloxone, a medicine that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose.

Keeping our Community Safe

Participating in a drug take-back program is one of the best ways to ensure medications are properly discarded. When placed in household trash, drugs can be retrieved by individuals for intentional misuse, found and ingested by curious children and pets and can potentially contaminate our water and soil.

Year-Round Drug Take Back Program

If you’re unable to stop by the drug collection site at Lynnhaven Mall on Oct. 25, you can drop off medications anonymously, year-round, using VBPD’s prescription medication collection boxes, available at all four VBPD precincts.
